Goats can be identified as individuals by their coat colour, pattern, horn size and shape in the same way that a whale’s fluke is used to identify individual animals.  This has allowed us to build a large collection of records of individual goats.  To achieve the full potential of this record as a searchable database of breed types, population size and a population monitoring system we need dedicated cataloguing software.

Over the past two years, OIGS has invested substantially in surveying feral goat herds to assess their breed type.  As these animals are feral they can have a flight distance (the distance at which the animal moves away due to disturbance including human disturbance) of up to 500m.  Specialised equipment is needed to view, identify, assess and record feral goats at this distance.

  Bronze Statue

€5300

Reminiscent of the Great Irish Elk, the stately silhouette of an Old Irish Goat is a sight that may soon fade into the Irish night sky, never to return. The essence of this piece would be to capture that regal stature in a striking art form.
