The Old Irish Goat Society is purely a 'not for profit' organisation, existing solely to preserve and promote the Old Irish goat. All donations and profits from sales will be put back into the work of the society to further protect and establish these unique animals.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Animal Care Assistants

We have a small number of Old Irish Goats that we are redomesticating as part of the initial phase of a sustainable breeding programme. Our goats get fed twice a day in their new home in Mulranny, Co. Mayo. This involves giving them their ration of barley and beet pulp, checking they have plenty hay and fresh water. We are on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to help care for our goats, learning more about them, the breed and help with their redomestication. Please contact us through the Contact page above for full details. (We would ask that volunteers agree to a minimum time commitment as there will need to be some training involved.)

Field Assistants

We will be regularly monitoring the feral herd in the Mulranny area and assessing the herd members for breed type and Old Irish Goat breed specific characteristics. This work will be ongoing but sporadic from July 2013. If you are interested in helping to preserve this rare, landrace breed, please contact us through the Contact page above for full details.
