Fionn and Oisín Explore their New Paddock

This morning our goats enjoyed their first day out in their new paddock!

Work has completed to turn the lawn area of Shangri-La into a goat paddock and we were able to give our boys their first day out to explore. Fionn is a six year old adult male from the Mulranny feral goat herd.  When we got him he had a badly injured and infected leg.  We brought him to a vet for surgery and housed him in Shangri-La so that we could care for him as he needed anti-biotics and regular changes of his bandages.  One rainy night, about a week later, Oisín showed up.

Fionn and Oisín were nervous and needed to be coaxed out into the new area but were very curious and quickly started wandering around and munching on the brambles and bracken around the pond area.

We hope they enjoy their new home!

Oisin is waiting on DNA testing to enter into the Old Irish Goat breeding program. He seems to meet all the criteria from looking at his physical characteristics, but we will not be sure until DNA analysis is done and compared with the historical DNA collected on Old Irish goats from museum specimens and private collections in England, Scotland and Ireland.  This study was completed in August of 2013 by Trinity College, Dublin.
